User Manual

A plain-language guide to using Secure Mesh — accounts, chats, calls, status, and settings.

User Manual

Welcome! This guide explains how to use Secure Mesh, the private messaging and calling app. Everything in this guide is about using the app day-to-day — no technical knowledge needed.

Getting started

Create an account

  1. Open the app (on the web at your team’s URL, or the Secure Mesh mobile app).
  2. Tap Sign up.
  3. Choose a username and enter your email and a password.
  4. When asked, allow the app to use your microphone and camera so calls work. You can change these later in your phone settings.

Enter your email and password and tap Log in. If you stay signed in, you’ll go straight to your Chats.

Chats

Start a 1-to-1 chat

  • On the Chats screen, tap the search/new-chat button and pick a person. Type your message and press send.

Group chats

  • From the Groups screen you can create a new group, invite members, and chat with everyone at once.

Sending messages

  • Type in the box at the bottom and press Send.
  • Tap the smiley icon to open the emoji picker — search for an emoji or pick from a category.
  • Messages you send appear on the right; messages from others appear on the left.

Calls

Start a call

  • Open a chat with a person (or a group) and tap the phone or video icon.
  • The person you’re calling will see an incoming call screen with Accept / Decline.
  • Once they accept, the call connects and you’ll see their video (video calls) or hear their voice (audio calls).

During a call

  • Mute — turns your microphone off/on.
  • Camera (video calls) — turns your camera off/on. The other side still sees your name tile if it’s off.
  • Minimize — shrinks the call to a small floating window so you can use the rest of the app. Tap it to bring the call back.
  • End — hangs up.
  • On a video call, the person you’re talking to fills the screen and a small picture-in-picture shows you. Tap tiles to switch who’s focused.

Group calls

  • In a group call, everyone appears in a grid. Tiles rearrange smoothly as people join or leave. Your own tile is labeled You.

Status

  • The Status screen lets you share a short photo or message update that your contacts can view. It’s like a lightweight “what’s new”.

Settings

  • Profile — edit your display name, bio, and avatar.
  • Appearance — switch between light and dark themes.
  • Log out — signs you out of this device. Your messages stay safe on the other end; you can log back in with your email and password.

Privacy & security

  • Your messages, calls, and media are end-to-end encrypted — Secure Mesh can’t read them.
  • Your session stays signed in until you log out or sign out from your device.
  • If you ever get asked for a permission (camera, microphone, notifications) that you didn’t expect, you can manage or revoke it in your device settings.

Troubleshooting

  • No sound on a call — make sure you’re not muted and that the microphone permission is granted.
  • Can’t see video — check that the camera permission is granted and that the other person’s camera is on.
  • Call won’t connect — make sure you have a working internet connection; if on mobile, try Wi-Fi.
